Entries from July 2008
Nope, one more day to go. How come that the first week back from vacation always seems sooo long at work?
Well, probably part of the reason is that I had such a great time with my mom here visiting from Germany. Oh, what didn’t we do? Seriously, we were on the go every day and covered everything worth seeing in the DFW Metroplex. She’s been here many times when we visited other cities in Texas, favorite of course Austin - come on, who doesn’t like Austin, TX?!!
My mom knew the next time she comes to the States we’ll be in Ohio, so she wanted to stay here and see all the ‘jewels’ of DFW one last time. I have to say, there’s lots to see! Dallas downtown has become nicer over the years and Victory Park in front of the AA Center is a cool area to hang out at, especially during game times. The Trailing Longhorns sculpture in Pioneer Plaza Park is a little hard to find, right at the end of D. downtown, but definitely worth visiting.
In Ft. Worth we got to see REAL longhorns and cowboys at the Stockyards. What a fun place! After attending the Rodeo show there, we also walked around downtown Ft. Worth. That has become Mitch’s and mine favorite hangout area, especially at night with all the lights everywhere.
Southfork Ranch – everyone born in the 70’s or before knows what I’m talking about. The place where they filmed the famous TV series “Dallas”. And yes, even in Germany we got to see it every week.
We also visited The Mustangs at Las Colinas (not only once)! What an interesting sculpture, always great to look at.
Besides all the sightseeing, we spent some relaxing time at a lake and the pool to cool off from the 100+F temperatures every day.
Fortunately, there was a Bridal Show in town that my mom and I attended. I’m so glad I had a chance to do this with her! What a great experience! We had so much fun and my mom got an idea of what an American wedding involves.
Luckily, we still have 1 year and 22 days left to plan everything!!! J

YES it did, finally! After weeks of sizzling heat near or above 100 F, it rained this morning for a whole 30 minutes, YEAH!!! It felt sooo good (almost forgot what that feels like). One thing is for sure, it is HOT in Texas - no end in sight… I definitely won’t miss that!
And no, we’re not talking about the winters in Ohio just yet

Sorry it has been so long since we have blogged, but hopefully this will stop the death texts from Ashley! Ok here it goes…….another list since that’s how I write.
* Doreen TRIED to come last Wednesday for the July 4th weekend, only to find out her flight from Chicago to Cleveland had been cancelled. Luckily, for us Matt and Nic live in the Windy City and let her stay the night until her plane left in the morning. Matt and Nic say the story waaaay better than I can, you can read the hilarious version at http://ourcrazydance.wordpress.com/. She made it just in time for the festivities to begin for the weekend! THANKS MATT AND NIC!
* Thursday was a night hanging out with friends at the National Terminal Apartments rooftop. The night reminded me of a 7th grade dance, girls talking about wedding plans on one side, and guys arguing sports on the other! Great times!
* Friday Doreen and I headed to Put N Bay for the day, we planned on staying only for a few brews, fireworks and some fresh seafood; we didn’t make it back to Cleveland until past 1am! The trip was memorable in soooo many ways (seeing D light up at the boats, people watching, golf-carts, Pinky, etc…). If you haven’t been to Put N bay for the July 4th Weekend, you must add it to the “Top Things I must do Before I Die”, trust me…………did I just hear bachelor party???
* Sunday we made some final decisions on the new house…who would have thought picking where you want a cable plug or phone line would be so stressful! WOW, the best part is a few days later we called our Project Manager and changed almost everything! HAHA SUCKER! Then it was time to spend some nice quality time with the family, we made it down to Shooters for some drinks and boat watching, great times!
* In between the major things that we did, we went to a few Wedding and Reception places, but no final decisions have been made yet. I think we are enjoying the time being engaged and will be making some decisions in the near future!
* Doreen headed back to Dallas earlier that week and it is never easy saying goodbye…BUT I knew how happy she was going to be with her Mutti (mom) who arrived on Thursday.

Doreen can blog about the events and the activities they’ve been doing. Stay tuned…

August 22nd, 2009
Now we can start making wedding plans. YEAH!!!
Cleveland here I come… as I’m getting ready for another exciting and fun trip to “God’s Town”. Not only to celebrate the 4th of July, but also to celebrate Ashley’s huge birthday as she enters a new decade of her life, the glamorous 30’s!!! I’m so happy I can be there for it.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag!

Well it seems like it was an eventful/relaxing weekend for both of us, which is very nice since a hectic one is brewing ahead. Doreen hung out with friends and drank some margarita’s on Friday. They were excited to hear about the engagement and all the stories from Chicago. I can only imagine the laughs and stories that were being told after a few of the best margarita’s around town! On Saturday she prepared for her mom coming into town since she only has a day in between Cleveland and her mom arriving. Yikes! D was excited about the Euro Cup final game between Germany and Spain the following day. Unfortunately, Germany lost 1-0. After the game I told Doreen now that the Sports Gods know she is moving to Cleveland that her teams will not win a championship….but the Sports Gods love to tease, I swear its a conspiracy! (‘95 & ‘97 Indians, up 3-1 in the ALCS last year, the Cavs in ‘07, The Drive, The Fumble, i am crying just writing this…….)
I on the other hand went to the Indians game with the boys, which was fantastic since its been two years since I have been back to The Jake (dont you dare call it Progressive Field!). We did it the right way, Panini’s first, then the game, then Panini’s again! Not to mention the TRIBE WON and Mike still hasn’t beaten me in a sports trivia contest! On Saturday I went to Lake Mohawk to visit the Hazen family. Collin told me it takes 1.5 hours to get there, but it took me 2.5 hours (hungover), he and Allison never let me forget it all weekend! It was a great day, we got to go jet-skiing, tubing, fishing, golfing, etc…Sure can’t beat the hospitality and the food down there too. Very nice Allison!
Well thats it for now, I am very impatiently awaiting Doreen’s arrival in 47 hours, 22 minutes, and 39 seconds….but who is counting??? ME!
